Answered my question from a thread I posted, maybe Ill have to read more lol. Im guessing that due to meta tag spamming etc search will focus more on readable content rather than hidden descriptions after all when a user searches they want the information they can read through the browser.
Ill probobaly put a description in but thats as far as Ill go now.

Make sure you target your description tag for your visitors, not the search engines.

For example, here's a home page META description I saw recently on an SEO forum. The site is real, the description tag's content is real, but the name has been changed.

Yeah, that's really descriptive (not to mention inspiring). I told the person who wrote that description to rewrite it with the person using the search engine in mind, and then gave an example of how I would do it. This is what I came up with:

Granted, I'm not a SEO Guru or copywriting expert, but the amateur in me was pleased with what I cooked up. To the best of my knowledge, the site owner still hasn't implemented any of the changes I suggested (remember, I build sites for people, not search engines).

I've found that sites don't rank as well when they don't have a desc. Once a desc is added the site shows up.

I think that's more likely to be coincidence than anything else but it is good practice to include a description for reasons mentioned earlier.
