    Oracle on FreeBSD?

Has anyone attempted to run Oracle 8 or 9 on FreeBSD 4.x in Linux compatibility mode? If so, how is the stablility, performance, etc? I know it can be done, I just want to know if it is worth the effort, or should I just install it on RedHat. I prefer FreeBSD if the performance and stability are there.

Not yet, but I'll be trying it shortly (as in the next few weeks). I'll let you know how it turns out.

Not a whole lot of effort involved. Read this article if you're unfamiliar with how Linux compatibility mode works.

I had tried Oracle 8 about a year ago, I believe on a 3.5 Release of FreeBSD without success.

I probably will try building 9.0 this time.

Someone on the usenet directed us to this Japanese link for 9.0, you can possibly use a translator:

Please keep us posted, good luck!
