    Question linux and mysql

    Hi All!

I have intalled linux and apache server and so far, so good. Then I installed mysql and ran into some trouble. Everything seemed to go fine but when I tried to run it for the first time, I got this error:

Starting mysql daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql/var
    mysql ended

Obviously, the server did not start. I went looking for a .err file in the /var directory but it does not seem to exist so I don't really know what to do now except pray for divine intervention. <grin>

I could use some guidance here...

    Thanks in advance.

    You called?

Um, sorry I can't provide the specific answer to your problem, but I can suggest (perhaps you have already done this) consulting the manual at I have always found the chapter on installing mysql to be very helpful. Also, if it does help, you can instal a precompiled binary for linux which you can dl from the mysql site - it is pretty easy to set up. Failing that, there are several bundled distributions of apache/php/mysql/etc available. I have installed the bundle on linux before without a hich (all from a web page interface).
