    tutorials on making shapes...

All the PS tutorials out there are just about effects, and fonts, and how to make something appear like water surface, or to glow, or to appear like broken glass ect. ect.

I want to know how to make and fill in with color and add font to, different shapes. Twistedhumor.com the menu bar (its an upside down L) is an example of the kind of think I want to make, just the basic shape... YET THERE ARE NO TUTORIALS like this... I know you probably do this w/ the PEN tool but, telling me this wont help. So where are the tutorials? How can I make these shapes, change the color, and add font that would make it into a menu bar??? please help!!

Maybe the reason why there are no tutorials is because shapes like that are normally done in a vector art program.

Maybe PS is suitable, but I don't know because I do stuff like that in Illustrator and it only takes like two minutes.

The Production Graphics column at WebReference is an excellent resource, most of the time. Wendy Peck has an entire article on PS selections and another one on vectors in various raster programs. Be sure to take a look around at some of her other articles, too. :-)

I also recommended a vector solution (Freehand/Illustrator) in your previous thread about this:

I realise that somethimes issues like these are quite daunting when you just don't seem to be able to find the solution, but I agree with Nicky that Photoshop is not master of everything graphical, sometimes you need to 'back it up' with other applications. To get this curve outline in a vector program would be easier to a cetain extent. You create the curve outline, and then export it as an eps, then place this in the document.

    Talking

*beams a big smile*... ahh my mom always told me I could do some things right!! Joking apart, I think it's an important point to note that although Photoshop has improved vector capabilities, it will never touch applications like Freehand and Illustrator for vector outline work (and never should!!). It is important to define what these applications do, and use them accordingly... you can sweat for ages trying to squeeze out of an application things that would be done in seconds in another.
