    I am 99.99% sure that it cant be done.
    it would be such a huge security issue if I could put anything I liked into any folder I wanted to on YOUR system!

    What code have you used?
    It might be possible but only if the user dragged the shortcut link to their desktop.

    here the code, but it works only in IE6 and IE7 and that too with securtiy settings as Low. it will not work in FF2.

    function shortcut(){
    var WshShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
    strDesktop = WshShell.SpecialFolders("Desktop");
    var oShellLink = WshShell.CreateShortcut(strDesktop + "\\site's title.url");
    oShellLink.TargetPath = "http://sitename.com/";
    oShellLink.Save();
    }

    Yes, you can do it through ActiveX. However, any sane user would disable that in their browser. I don't know of any browsers, except IE, which would allow this.
    If you still want to go ahead, refer to Microsoft's documentation on windows shell scripting or ask in the .net forum. I'm fairly sure, you can copy an image, to the users machine, that way. But again -- If there's a virus-scanner or other security-software on the machine, it will prevent your script from running.
