Question How do I know if I should swap links or not?

    Hi,

One of my websites has started to pick up a bit of traffic from Google and the last thing I want to do is ruin this now, but can someone give me a few pointers to use for deciding which sites I should accept link exchanges from...?

I'm getting a few emails now from people who would like to swap links, and I know how hard it is to get started so I really want to help them out.

The sites I'm looking at don't have pagerank either which makes me suspicious... Are they blacklisted by Google already!? If so I definately don't want to link to them.

Any advice would be appreciated. Is there a place somewhere I can load a URL into and get a report on the 'quality' of the site? That would be a nifty tool.

    Thanks,
    Tom

just check them if they are relevant to your site,

also see this the linking page is cached in Google or not (For grey page rank)

see how many links are their on that page, and how it is categorized.

    Work done

    Hi

If your site is doing well, why would u wanna exchange links and take the risk ? are you talking about recipricol linking ?

If your site is doing well without them, personally i wouldnt accept them, why link to ur competition if you dont need to ?

If you want to help people out that is slightly different, i would try to find out as much as you can about the sites your going to exchange with, and get some kind of agreement with them make sure you link to sites u think are going to grow, as i have linked to sites that have struggled too, make sure they remember ur site if for some reason ur site starts to struggle.

Reserve link exchanges for sites that are well established, in your niche, and ranked ahead of you in Google and other search engines. Otherwise decline any exchange requests.

I don't think that you should exchange links just to help out noobs, but if the requesting site's content is relevant to your site content and linking to it would provide your users with a better experience, then I think you should link back. The only kudo I would add is to be sure that the link to your site is on a content page and not a links page.

I agree 100% about the cached page.

Sometimes people create bogus link pages with no incoming links to that page.

Also check to see if they have the no follow on the tags.

You should create link with quality websites.

    1. Those websites must have the same theme with you.
    2. Your links must be added on web pages that have pagerank.

Thanks for all the advice, yeah I think I'll definately reserve link exchanges for sites that I genuinely like and that I am basically recommending to my visitors.
