Outsourcing, how much should I charge?

Curious if anyone has any rules of thumb or insights on how much to mark up on outsourced work?

I've read some articles from Brendon Sinclair and he has said that he will often charge 5x's of what his subcontractors charge him, If a website cost him $1,000 to build he'll charge the client $5,000.

I'd like to hear from some other people on how they figure what amount to charge.

    Thanks everyone!

    Hi WhiteFire,

Unfortunately we're not allowed to talk about pricing directly here. Hang on, and I'll post some links to resources right here on SitePoint that should help you out before a moderator comes along and locks this thread.

    And here they are:

Freelance Pricing Part 1 - Set Your Rate!
Freelance Pricing Part 2 - Quoting To Win!
Pricing Web Work - What Should You Charge?
How to determine what to charge a client (forum thread)
Write a Business Plan that Works
    Write Proposals That Sell

Those articles (and thread) should give you enough of an idea to help you out. Also, don't worry about what the competition charges so much. Quote based on your skills and the value you can provide your clients. You'll end up getting better clients soon enough anyway (since it serves as a pre-qualification process by itself).

No problem. Dave Hecker (Sagewing) even wrote a book for SitePoint that deals with outsourcing. I don't know if it'll be of any use to you and your particular situation, but you might want to look into it anyway. You can find it among the other books at www.sitepoint.com/books/outsourcing1pdf
