    starting a chat

I have just started a chat website featuring messageboards and private messages, how would i start getting members because i find it hard when someone checks my site out and joisn a chatroom and no one is there, because people come in at different times, it would be alot easier if they joined all at the same time what should i do?

Perhaps this question is more appropriate for the website promotion boards here on SitePoint - but my initial thought is that you will probably have to do some heavy marketing, which will necessitate a certain budget. Adwords and such can bring in the traffic, but you might also like to join a site that offers to send a certain amount of traffic to your site for a fee.

You may also like to check out the community boards here also - for some tips on managing and growing a site like a forum/messageboards.

i cant really use website spiders because there is hardly any content to view because its in a chat window, if i get 1 user in they always leave because no one is there because users all come in at different times.
