    I always use index.htm

Just seems like the obvious choice to me! Also, regarding the extension, I always use .htm simply for the fact that windows generally always uses the 3 character extension... it doesn't seem to really matter, but thats my opinion on it!

"index" as well, over here (well usually)! If I find that the default page in a directory is better labeled by "default" I'll go ahead and use it. For instance, I'll probably use "default" (if I catch myself) for an application of some sort unless the default page serves as an index or something.

Though it really doesn't matter much, since I don't link to the default file in a directory; I link to the directory itself.

I use index too. But it's usually index.pl.

Most webservers except for IIS are preconfigured to use only index.html, so it's good to get in habit of using it.

I use index.html, but I haven't noticed that most web servers won't handle .htm. I think most of them will.

Well, from the default Apache 1.3.19 (only ver I had lying around) httpd.conf:

    Code:
    # DirectoryIndex: Name of the file or files to use as a pre-written HTML
        DirectoryIndex index.html
True, most webhosts set a bunch of other directory indexes, but just to be safe...

    Always has been
    Always will be.
    It's just how I learned.

And .html just becuase ever since I learned that Frontpage used .htm, I used the four letter extension.
