Sitepoint Logo Design Contests, operating expenses?

Hi guys,

I'd like to use the Logo Design marketplace here on sitepoint more often, but i'm concerned about receipts. I'm from germany, we have strict regulations regarding receipts. Last time I paid an logo design on sitepoint, he was unable to send me an receipt.

How do you handle this kind of operating expenses? Is it more easy in USA?

I dont know the German regulations.

In Norway we need to provide receipt/invoice for each payment as well.

In the cases where a freelancer is not providing a invoice, you can use the receipt from the payment processor and tie it towards the product/service in the accounting program.

Not sure if this is sufficient for you, but you should ask your CPA. He/She will be able to give you a proper answer.

Nothing obligates an individual in the US selling most things to provide any type of receipt. As for tax records here, the IRS would be fine with a PayPal receipt as proof of a business purchase.

Hi,

though I'm german, I can only give you the answer for New Zealand. Here for amounts under $50 (ex GST) a "written record" is sufficient.

As far as I understand that could be:
- a printed email
- a printed screen shot
- a scribbled note
- an entry in your accounting system

I'm sure there is a similar amount in Germany, it would otherwise be ridicolous.

As mentioned before, ask an accountant or "Steuerberater".

According to this you need only a proper receipt for GSt purposes, which you haven't paid.
