Thinking of dumping my iPhone any suggestions?

I've had my iPhone a couple of months. Thinking about dumping it -- unlike a mac, the iPhone does crash

I'm with AT&T and looking at the Nokia N75 since it uses iSync to sync calendar, contact and other info with OS/X, and I can also code my on java mobile apps and not have to diddle around and wait for the iPhone SDK.

Anyone run OS/X, on AT&T and possibly suggest an alternative to the iPhone that will sync ok with OS/X, has bluetooth, good battery life, e-mail, chat, and can run java apps? I'd rather NOT have to buy some 3rd party app to sync my phone, been down that road with Missing Sync ---and it sucked!

    Thanks!

Just today a guy in work was telling me that there was allegedly a batch of iPhone's that was defective.

Something to do with an older version of some software accidentally installed or so. Google it.

Anyway, maybe yours in from that batch.

It happens randomly. Anyways, I really don't care much for the size of it hanging off my belt always feel like your going to scratch / break it. I just need a phone that will sync my contacts, to-do, calendar etc, along with BT and e-mail and I would be happy. Figured I would order a macbook tomorrow anyway.

Btw, I hate the battery life on the iPhone, my cigarette lighter is broke so you know what that is like when your phone starts to die out in about 3 hours in the field.

    thanks for the reply!

    Seriously??

Nah that can't be right... three hours is pathetic.

Yeah, the phone works fine. But, when you start hitting a hotspot, sending e-mail, using the camera etc, it really nails the battery. Anyways, like the specs, 4 hours talk time. When that LCD fires up and you start doing other things, it takes a whop out of that talk time.

It would be neat, in the future, for companies to mfg a phone with dual batteries. One for phone service and the other for powering videos, web etc. In theory, if you power out all those "nifty features" and get out in the sticks, you still have a battery for phone service (which if your stuck in the stick or needing to do business on the phone with a client is the most important thing).

Hence why I want my cell-phone to be a cell-phone and nothing else but.

Something simple and specialised always wins out over something complicated and over-done.

Well, being able to sync your contacts and appointments/calendar should be a gimmie on any cell phone. But, funny, how Tetris on a cell phone is somehow more important and prevalent by phone mfgs than the 9 O'Clock appointment that I might have with the neurologist.

They can't be serious. What about the Nokia 95's or even the E70? Its over a year old and still does more!

On a similar note (I was going to make my own thread, but this is kinda similar), does anyone know of a decent MP3 player, similar to an iPod touch, that isn't the iPod touch? I'd really like something with a decent, but not excessive storage (8gb?), video, and wi-fi (if possible), and something that isn't a phone.

the iphone has sold enough units—more than 1.4 million at press time—that it'll be around for a while, and with all that room to develop and its infinitely updatable, all-software interface, the iPhone is built to evolve. Look at the iPod of six years ago. That monochrome interface! That clunky touchwheel! It looks like something a caveman whittled from a piece of flint using another piece of flint. Now imagine something that's going to make the iPhone look that primitive. You'll have one in a few years. It'll be very cool. And it'll be even cheaper.
What a crappy analysis. When the ipod came out it hardly had competition so people were excited about the clunky touchwheel. The iphone entered a market stuffed with sophisticated competing devices hence it's definitely not the invention of the year.

    iPhones... ugh.

I guess I'm old fashioned, but I just want a "pick up and talk" phone, with no bells and whistles. I don't want the Internet on my phone, I don't want it to play music, do the laundry, or give me sports scores.

Guess that makes me a bad candidate for a recommendation.

I just got an AT&T Tilt (for $150 - great promotion). It's my first fancy phone. I've always been a 'talk only' guy but this phone has really impressed me. The syncing with Outlook is elegant and it integrated with my Rhapsody Unlimited perfectly - it keeps about 1gig of music synced and licensed all the time. And, I got a mobile podcast which will update my pocast subscriptions over GPRS if I don't connect to a laptop. Very slick!

Anyways, if you aren't too down on Microsoft Windows Mobile, it might be worth a shot. The interface isn't anywhere near as elegant and thumb-friendly as the iPhone, but there's so much you can do with it. If you are a hack/tweak type, you'll be in heaven with any kind of a Windows Mobile device.

Another surprise: the call quality is the best I've ever had on any phone, ever! I used an iPhone for about 2 weeks and it was ok, but I'll take a Tilt any day!

hmm... Not sure why you want to do this. Personally, I don't see myself using any other phone after using the iPhone. The iPhone actually saved my business few times already when I was on the road.

This is like going back to Windows after using OSX. You need to rethink your decision.

As far as other phones, as long as they support Bluetooth which 95% of phones do, then you should be able to sync it with your Mac with no problems.

And another phone can't do that?

With a Windows Mobile phone, you can Remote Desktop to any Windows PC or server and control it as if you're sitting in front of it. Nothing you can't fix while away.

Dude, I think this may be of assistance: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/

I personally am a fan of the k800i (although it has now been succeeded).

Control your mac via Bluetooth, uses removable storage so you can easily outstrip the iPhones capacity with a minimal investment, syncs nicely, compact, decent music player, etc etc etc
