Does anyone use those bookmark icons on blogs?

I've noticed a lot of people have little bookmark icons at the bottom of their blog posts.

E.g: del.icio.us, Dig, Furl, Reddit etc etc

Does anyone actually click those? Are they worth adding to a blog or are they a waste of time?

If it is not there then your visitors are extremely unlikely to add you to their bookmarks on whichever site they use because most wouldn't know how to do it without that link.

OK. Has anyone done any research on whether or not people actually click them?

It's one thing to have them sitting there but another thing if people actually click on them...

If they are there and you get enough visitors then someone will click them. If they are not there then no one will click them regardless of how many millions of visitors you get to your site each day.

    Felgal said it all.

If it doesn't clog up your pages, put 'em in. It doesn't hurt anything, right?

And the only way to know if it works is to see the results for yourself.

I am not sure if I ever got any traffic from those bookmarks, but I know I have to keep it.

You will never know when those blogs of yours will be of much use so just place those bookmarks there. Anyway, it just take a fraction of your time to place them there and you might get better numbers visits in time.

Just make sure that those blogs are really interesting to read and for the visitors to bookmark your blog.

I've gotten some traffic from these, but most of it was bounce traffic.

On the upside, you do get links, which couldn't hurt you. You also get some sort of idea on what people mostly want to read about.

On the down side, it's kind of like including a hit counter...and having hardly any hits. Unless the page gets a lot of bookmarks, some of the buttons (like DIGG) is just like telling everyone "Hey--not many people liked this page!"

I just added mine a few weeks ago, and have gotten a few bookmarks. But again, any traffic I got from them quickly bounced back.

That is really true about these bookmarkings. If there are not so many visits or points in your blogs or articles then it might never be noticed even if the content is really good.
