Hello
Just wondering what everyones Plans are this Thanksgiving?![]()

sorry, with 11 months to go before thanksgiving, i don't have any plans yet

lol what part of the Country do you live in?
rudy is one of those fureigners that doesn't have a real thanksgiving or a god.

our thanksgiving is just as real as yours, and by the way, it is you who are the furryner
as for the g*d comment, let's not get into religion, it's against sitepoint guidelines

Obviously you're all foreigners since most countries don't have such a holiday.

We don't, but I think that's a shame. Thanksgiving is the one holiday that really makes sense to me. The others are historic but don't have much of relevance any more. Thanksgiving always will.
When is it (in USA) BTW?

fourth thursday in november in the usa
second monday in october in canada

Thanksgiving seems to me to be mostly a reason to get members of a family together and have a nice family meal together, reunite people after a long time apart and rekindle relationships. I agree with the HAWK in that this is a pretty good sort of holiday to have.
My family isn't religious at all, but we use Christmas as an opportunity to do the same sort of thing, and it's always nice to give each other gifts, so we do that too.

Yeah, we're the same at Christmas.
We usually go to my brother's house, his wife and my nephews, but this year, we own 127 acres out in the country set back in the woods, we're going there. Fresh turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, all home-made. It's the most wonderful time of...uh...Have a holly, jolly....uh.....isn't there a Thanksgiving song?!!!
I'm with Rudy. Anyone who plans Thanksgiving 11 months in advancy needs serious help
Btw, howdy Rudy, wanna grab a coffee sometime since we actually live in the same damn city now?![]()

I went to a Thanksgiving party yesterday.![]()

The last (and only) Thanksgiving I celebrated was in November 1992, the next will probably be several years in the future (at least). All depends on when I next end up in USA or Canada at the appropriate time of year and whether I am close enough to where some of my friends there live to be invited to join them in their celebrations.

Question: Is there a reason that Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday? Was the first thanksgiving meant to have been on a Thursday maybe?
Yes. The football games are on Thursday. And we need Friday off to go shopping.
That's another thing Rudy is missing. Real football.

what are you talking about? i get real football here
i also get canadian football, which you don't
i used to sneak out of work on thanksgiving thursday afternoon, and watch the games in a bar
i haven't seen this week's lines yet but judging by the past couple of weeks, the packers are going to be heavily favoured, and i will take the lions and the points
the jets won yesterday but that won't make any difference, and i will take dallas and give the points
real football
My husband, son and I are heading to Upstate New York to Thanksgiving dinner at my sister-in-laws house. My parents will be there plus all the in-laws so my 6-year-old is very excited. He loves family get togethers as we live in another state and only has them a couple times a year.
This year we will stay home for Christmas for the first time since he was born (at his request) so we will have to create some new holiday traditions.

Let's be serious, you both don't really have real football.

of course we have really real football
and, being open-minded (unlike some areas of the world), we also have other forms of football, including soccer, but they are rather poorly attended
american thanksgiving is treasured mainly because of the detroit & dallas football games
i personally know a number of both americans and canadians who would languish almost to insanity if they couldn't escape the thanksgiving dining room to watch those games (except in canada we already had the big meal and family get-together seven weeks ago)
i've seen the occasional aussie football game, i rather like it, and i wish they showed more of it up here

Canada has a football league like the NFL in the US but their rules are somewhat different.
Rudy,
I used to watch Australian Rules Football years ago and rather enjoyed it, too.
