Is lens flare that little rainbow in the image?

yep. thats why lens hoods are used when shooting in day or at a location with bright light sources, to avoid lens flares!! but if you don't have a lens hood or forgot to bring along on a shoot or have a compact on which lens hood can't be put then you can use anthing else as well, like your hand(if you can hold the camera & click by one hand) or you can fashion one out using some dark coloured paper & wrapping around the lens etc.

Yes, I wear a dark hat with a very wide brim, that does the trick
I have also held an umbrella above me, sort of funny holding it with my neck, the chin squeezed onto the handle. Works

As you might be able to tell from foreground that photo, I snapped it from inside the plane, while waiting on the tarmac, at LAX.

I didn't notice that, although I think the foreground takes away some of the brilliance of the background. Still, it's nice to know you can get good pics through a jet window I tried that on the fly back from France where we has supreme good visibility, however the windows were scratched to hell.

Yeah, but that is the thing. Artwork in general requires small inventions and improvisations all along, breaking out and finding makeshifts. Those kind of things are never pretty or solid, just meant for a small moment.

Some mundane things I shot today for this thread - the subject matter was what I had to hand in my office Great way to take a break.

You might have guessed that I used a clean sheet of A4 paper to create the backdrop - it's something I've been wanting to set up at home - just a place that is sterile for capturing clean pictures of objects without any clutter or background

Yes, for that I use sheets of foam core. I also use rolls of fabric that drape in a curve so there is no visible edge from the horizontal to the vertical surface.

I was looking through my photos looking for something random to share. Well, this is pretty random. We had just got off a cruise ship and we were driving from there to one of my grandparent's houses (probably) and drove by the run down (though historic) Desert Inn at Yeehaw Junction in Florida. The building itself as "character", but if that wasn't enough, there were chickens and roosters in the parking lot. So, we laughed and I snapped a few photos. It was a foggy, rainy day and I took the photos from the car, so they aren't the best quality photos, but, I find them interesting.

I had a glass of red wine sitting there, the candle lit right beside it. So I took the camera and shot into the glass. What came out was this eye. I only enhanced it with the little light in the "pupil", which actually is the stem of the glass.

Spooky. I would have firstly guessed that it was an eye, if I didn't know the trick of the camera - Though the whole piece looks like an eye within an eye.
