    [LAYOUT] rookie here...

this website is for a game where two players play aginst each other placing tiles on a board to form cribbage hands like scrabble. the logo was designed to be a medieval shield consisting of one of each colored game tiles...the client is looking for the website to match closely with the logo which he is very happy with...

i normaly design logos but i am helping out some in designing the buttons, tabs, header and coloring etc... presently i am working on a screenshot of the homepage layout... also the client likes the font (which i know does seem a little diffiult to read at smaller sizes)... looking for tips/pointers on how to improve this page from the pros...

    thanks very much in advance!

thanks for the compliment on the logo

i've done some more work to the coloring and layout etc...

the owner of the site is taking care of the text and i am mostly just working with a screenshot to get a new layout and color etc. i tried a bit to get the text coloring to fit a bit better here.

this is what i have come up with so far... (not sure about the fit of the buttons now but the owner likes them this way as a lot of seniors use the site and want big clear ways of navigating)

Those are great. The text really goes with it. Is it coded? I can see companies buying them

nice.. very game and it fits what this site is all about. I like what you did with the scrabble letters on the top righthand corner small details like this can make a big difference.

    I like the logo.

Maybe change background color from white to light grey or a cream type color like the buttons on the right.

Nice design, i like it very much, good use of color, smooth on eyes. Just one thing the horizontal ruler above the footer is too close to the last link in the content, give it some more top margin.

    I Agree. Looks Great!

Perhaps the text Hyperlinks colour and format can be changed to match in with the rest of the site, using CSS.

    Kc

i would consider nudging the "KC" logo up a bit to give it a little breathing room. it seems to me a little cramped against the scroll/banner. Other than that i like the background on teh 2nd layout and the the navigation looks a lot cleaner too.

    looks nice!

when i first saw your first version i was going to suggest making the bricks span across the entire background. but now when i see it in your second version I am unsure... Maybe lower the contrast on the bricks slightly?

the 2 horizontal lines in the content should span further across the content area or try to keep the content within those lines

logo seems lost, maybe try to make the bricks behind/touching the logo missing so it looks like the logo broke through?

    all and all looks clean

It looks very nice. I would probably make top margin a little larger than bottom margin for HR tags.

Lol, you don't seem like a rookie to me. I couldn't really find anything that really needed changing. The one thing I did notice was that the font of the navigation is a bit difficult to read.

Also, like someone mentioned earlier, the bricks are a bit too strong. You should probably lower the contrast to where you don't notice they are bricks the first time you come onto the page. I always think textures should be subtle.

    Great looking layout/logo

[edit- I made a suggestion on the first layout without seeing the update and you fixed what I had suggested, so overall good layout!]
