These companies each work with completely different ad units. Whereas kontera displays inline advertisements, google displays text/banners.

I have good experience with running them together, instead of choosing one over another.

Well, google is just simply out there more. Tons of people searching with it everyday, tons of sites with google ads, a giant community base. They're just very established when it comes to advertising.

As for Kontera, if it's converting enough to be profitable, I'd just keep it. It's the advertising programs that claim to be spectacular, giving you a ton of clicks, but only a small percentage convert that are really horrible.

The Google script is 15k, the Kontera script is 18k. If you consider that the ideal total size for a web size is around 40k, if you have both then you don't have much space left for your page content. If your page ends up bigger than that then you start losing visitors who move on before the page finishes loading and so have fewer people to click on the ads.

Google is contextual so ads are relevant to the page.
Kontera is not. It picks up words that it can link an ad to, even when that ad is not related to the site/page.
But hte truth of hte matter is that most other ad systems lag way behind google

perhaps for you but quigo made me far more than adsense ever did. Fed up with googles 5c clicks I got 80c+ from quigo.

Google works for most people as they don't need to think about it. Stick the code on and hey I make money. Can you make more money elsewhere? Perhaps. Do you need to work at it-of course and that is the reason people think google is so great because they neither need to work or think. How many people do you think were making vast sums before google and continue to do so. How is that possible I hear the google shills crying. WORK and THOUGHT

Note to everyone google isn't the answer no matter the question!

    Not true.

If the question is "What search engines have over 10% of web pages indexed?" then the only answer is Google. Not that having more pages indexed than any other search engine necessarily makes it better.

Well I don't use Kontera, but I use VibrantMedia which does contextual ads that I believe are the same thing. I have been running Google Adsense for years and its been a very consistent performer. I have now been running Vibrant for about a month and the click through rates are very similar, and the payout is tracking a little higher. This has been a great addition since it was a net plus. As for the page loading size, man my pages are incredibly fat compared to the "recommended" 40K that was mentioned so the added weight of Vibrant is a drop in the bucket. Traffic continues to do well so I doubt this is having any effect on it.

    Kontera and Adsense

    Hello,

I'm from Kontera. I read all the mixed reviews here...It's important for us to hear whatever publishers have to say, whether it's positive or negative. For many sites, the benefit of using Kontera is the fact that it is complementary to Adsense, it brings in an additional income without taking away more of a site's advertising space. We often suggest ContentLinks as supplemental revenue source.
Sites that follow our optimization guidelines, have a better chance to maximize their revenue potential. Contact me for optimization advice.

I have seen a number of reports that quite Google as having indexed around 18-19% of the web compared to around 9% for Yahoo and MSN. No idea how accurate those reports are but they all said approximately the same thing.

I don't actually use Kontera, but I have heard two sides to it which I would expect. In other words, some people do well with kontera and not so well with Adsense while others may do well with Adsense and not kontera. Some people even do rather well with both.

Ya thats not a very good rate per click. I find that affiliate programs, in the right niche, produce more revenue that Adsense...

I tend to recommend affiliate programs over AdSense (though some consider me biased) simply because in my experience affiliate programs pay 10x more on some of my sites. Not only that, but often there are no "relevant" ads that are targeted towards my websites, whereas there is almost always an affiliate program out there for them.

You've got to be kidding me I got banned by Adsense and put Kontera on my Forums and they are beating Adsense 5:1 - plus they assinged me an AM (Account Manager) so I have somebody to talk to. anyway, Google re-instated my account after my appeal (although they kept all of my earnings - severl hundred dollars) but I'm nto even tempted to change the Kontera out for the Google.

I'm trying out Kontera now. I'm not sure what to report yet, but so far so good.
I know Randy brown generates over $1k/month from Kontera.

One thing to remember with Kontera is that if your visitors ar eusing a browser other than IE or Firefox that you have added 18k to your file size for no visdible change to the page as the Kontera ads only work with those browsrs but still download all their code in other browsers.

As I regularly look at pages in different browsers and don't weant that extra useless overhead I just added a line to the hosts file on my computer to block the Kontera script from downloading at all.

Kontera works fine with Safari and Opera as well as IE and Firefox. If your experence is different, it need to be looked into. There's no reason for it to cause any kind of trouble as ContentLinks are built to match with these browsers.

Let me know if there's anything I can help with.
