Before you disable comments take note of this:

I clicked on the link that Dan left and read Seth Godin's blog. I wondered why I had never subscribed to his feed before. The reason -- Seth Godin doesn't have a feed.

I wondered why. Looking at his blog site, I see that his monetization comes through selling his books. Those ads wouldn't appear in a feedreader and since he doesn't allow comments, subscribers would never have a reason to access his site if they could just add his blog to their feeds.

So, if you have monetized your blogs with something other than an ad network such as adwords (which you can add to a feedburner feed), it would be counter productive to disable commenting.

So there are some good scripts for preventing spam? What if you receive like 100 comments in a day, that will need a lof mederating.

As mentioned earlier, akismet is a good script for catching spam.

I don't know if it enables capcha. That's something you will need to research in the word press documentation. With Akismet, there really isn't any need for capcha that I can see.

I've been subscribed to his feed for a long time: http://feeds.feedburner.com/typepad/sethsmainblog

Wonder how you didn't notice it.

Askimet doesn't use captchas. It has it's own validation checks, and they're usually pretty good.

Where is it on his site? I couldn't find it ANYwhere!

Never mind... I see them down the sidebar.

I take back everything I said then, but do consider that those who subscribe in feed readers won't need to visit your site if you disable comments. If that's where your ads are, you'll miss out on a lot of prospective sales.

Not one of the people who use the scrollbar eh

You make a good point. If comments are disabled, there's no need to come to the site. The feed reader is good enough.

which means that you will not get good traffic and good adsense ranks....this is making a lot of sense.
