    I was checking out competitors sites for keywords and came across this 'head' at a site which comes 2nd at Alta Vista for the keyword I was using...
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1">
    title>I've Removed The Site Title</title>
    <meta name="generator" content="GoLive CyberStudio"></head>

    The keyword isn't in the title and appears only four times within the text on the page.

    How come they got so high?

    OK I feel stupid now....

    Just found another one...
    <META NAME="GENERATOR" CONTENT="Adobe PageMill 3.0 Win">

    So I am guessing that 'generator' is just the application they used to make the site.

    But still, how come so high in Alta Vista without metakeywords???

    Keyword placement isn't the only thing that determines rankings, I think that link popularity and frequency of updates to the site are other factors...
