    Gradient-filled text

I'm a novice using PS but I'm having trouble figuring out how to do gradient-filled text. I've typed out a logo using the font I want, and I want it filled with aqua-to-midnight-blue (bottom to top).

I hope I don't have to zoom in and use the fill tool on each letter... That would screw up the anti-aliasing, wouldn't it?

    Argh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ctrl-click the layer image on your layer pallete and it will select the letters-shapes for you, then make a new layer and use the gradient tool to fill that selection. It's quite easy.

You could also use type mask tool, which will make a selection as you type. It's the dotted line "T" in the pop-up micro menu on the type tool in the tool pallet.

But, make sure everything is spelled correctly first as you can't go back and edit the text afterward. 'Same goes for the method Steel mentioned: you can't edit the gradient text (though the original layer should be good to go). :-)

Glad to help! One thing I'm constantly learning is that with Photoshop, there's always an easier way! :-)

...and another thought to add is that there is usally more than one way to achive an effect in Photoshop! I think the best way is to use a gradient layer effect (if you are using version 6)... this way your type would remain editable too!

    Thanks Ian!

Ditto, Johnny. I'll try that method next time, as I just spent the afternoon working around that uneditable text. Gee, you'd THINK I could leave it alone, but noooooooo...
