The font is called OCR-A (alt. OCRA) and it is available from Adobe type, Bitstream and also Linotype

However, it wouldn't surprise me if there were a few knock-off versions floating around the web.

It was originally designed for use on documents and cards that would be 'read' by computer. The OCR stands for Optical Computer Recognition. This font was the first one devised and issued for use in 1968, ergo version 'A'

It's available as a single font for only $24/17/28. at Linotype and Bitstream.

    Is the job a freeby?

    p.s. re: hobby/anorak.

I have both "OCR-A BT" and "OCR-A Extended" on my computer (and I know I didn't pay for it. It could be alredy installed on you're system or bundled with some software.

    If not, try...

The URW edition is available from MyFonts for less than $20

    Just a note...
Do not assume that because a site says OCR-A is freeware that it is actually free.
Only licenced outlets have the right to sell it.
It is often the case that shareware/freeware font collection sites neither know nor care about the legality of their downloadable files.
Using a rip-off/spin-off is as illegal as using a pirated copy of the font.
Rip-off versions are usually renamed copies of the font or bad copies badly traced from bad scans.

Not preaching, just letting you know the score.
Which option you choose it up to you.

btw, I know that it was included free on the Adobe Pagemaker 7 CD and "WP 8.0" (Word Perfect?).
I think it may have also come with some (older) printer installation CDs/disks.

    But, anyway... $19.95.

    Come on, do it

I sometimes wonder what else goes on your machine with your knowledge. Kinda scary in some since, but then again, I have a large amount of useful stuff that I never put there.

BTW, Bill's right there: You should check it out before you click. I just found the page in a Google search and I don't know if it's even the right font.

Best bet to search through your Adobe disks for it, or download Acrobat for a legally licensed version. And, you get to find out where the hell it comes form (be sure to tell us all once you find out)... :-)
