    Post your computer specs

Just got my computer fixed, was wondering what everybody else is using here?

    Here's me:

    Processor: AMD X2 3800+ 2.2ghz
    Motherboard: Asus A8N32-SLI
    Harddrive: 250GB SATA WD
Video Card: ATI Radeon X850XT 256MB
    Memory: 2gb PC3200 DDR-400
    Moniter: Samsung 931BW 19" Widescreen
    DVD: LG Burner
    Case + Power: Thermaltake

I just installed Vista, this system is amazing. I can open all my programs [ICQ, MSN, Winamp, Photoshop, Filezilla, a few Firefox, Thunderbird] and runs without a hiccup, really satisfied, it has a Windows Experience Index [Vista] of 4.9 [out of 5.9] so that's good.

So common guys, show your stuff.

    - Tomer

Well the laptop I use at home primarily for all my work and browsing
    has a 1.6ghz intel processor
    1gb ram
Some sort of ATI RADEON (RUBBISH) graphics card
    30 gb hard drive
    on XP sp2
    1280X800px widescreen monitor.

She runs eveything I need her too, but has started to show signs of age so i'm already looking to replace her with a beefy desktop.

    Personal:

    Main desktop: AMD Athalon XP 5200, High-End Asus Mobo, 4gb RAM, 2x 74gb WD Raptors (boot, RAID 1), 2x 500gb Seagate 7200.10 (data, RAID 1), GeForce 8800 GTX, 2x Samsung 204bs (20" LCDs)

File/Media Server: Good question, took it as payment for a debt so I don't have specs. ~512 mb RAM, 60gb boot drive, 500gb data drive.

App Server: AMD Athalon 2500, 1gb RAM, 200 GB seagate (boot), 2x 160GB Maxtor SATA drives in RAID 1 (data), GeForce 4400 (it was my old desktop).

    Work

Desktop: Athalon 3800+, 2gb RAM (about to be 4), 2x 160 GB SATA HDDs (RAID 1, Boot), 2x 320gb SATA HDDs, ATI Radeon of some sort, 2x Samsung 204bs (20" LCDs).

Laptop: IBM X40, 768mb RAM, 40gb 4200 RPM disk. Feels very, very slow. I believe there is an X60 in my future . . .

    Main Dev/QA Server: P4 3ghz, 160gb boot, 2x 320gb SATA drives in RAID 1 (data), 2gb RAM

There are alot of other boxes involved in the dev environment of various vintages, too many to list here.

PS: If it looks like I have a RAID fetish, I do.

Damn wwb_99, no wonder you're the server guru of the year ah. So much disk space, what do you do with it all? I have 250GB and always have space to spare. :/

Lol. Well, there is a certain *folder* I have which would not fit on anything short of a 320gb drive these days. Don't even get me going about backup challenges.

More seriously--do note that many of those drives are living in mirrored RAID arrays, so I am only getting half the possible storage and all the possible redundancy. Having lost a drive or three, redundant storage is worth every red cent.

All these parts are a couple years old...

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (single core)
    2GB DDR333
    GeForce 6800 GT 256MB

Runs Windows Vista Ultimate, compiling a program in Visual Studio 2005, with Slingplayer TV docked on the right of a widescreen 22" LCD, Eclipse open with 10000 file PHP project loaded with intellisense, 4 PuTTY windows, Photoshop designing a site, two Firefox windows, Opera, Thunderbird and a couple Explorer windows.

Typical usage, not slow at all. People that think you need a brand new computer to run Vista are stupid. Processors have barely advanced in the past few years. The whole multi-core thing is a desperate attempt at moving forward when they're really not. Great for servers running Linux and software designed for multithreading, just about pointless in normal desktop usage.

My Windows Experience Index is about the same as tribl4maniac's despite the much older hardware. I played BioShock, FURY, and all the latest game demos of this year. No intent to upgrade any time soon.

Aside from buying new disks, that is. About a terabyte filled with anime and movies...

@ Dan - I'm surprised your system can handle all those applications. On paper, it doesn't sound strong. But you're right - the companies are pretty much in a stalemate, with nothing else to do but add more and more processors [2, 3, 4]

I'll keep my system until it gets obsolete, already virtually impossible to get the parts that I have [socket 939 series] so hope nothing breaks. :/

    Dell XPS Gen 5
    Pentium 4 3.4gig processor
3gb memory (I do a lot with virtual machines)
    250gb hard drive
    Nvidia geforce 6800, 128meg PCI-E

Primary OS is Ubuntu 7.10 with Compiz Fustion for effects.
It also runs a VirtualBox machine of Windows XP, as well as various other OS's for testing.
Second OS is XP sp2 stripped down for optimal gaming performance. That one is do for a reload soon. Going to play around with Altiris SVS to see if it impacts the performance of games if I virtualize the application.

The XP Partition was able to handle Bioshock with no issues on the lower graphic settings. It was playable with everything maxed out, but stuttered to much for my liking.
