    header design

    Hi,

Im not a designer im a programmer so im wanting a little feedback on an attempt ive made to layout a header for an e-commerce site im building....ive been looking at it too much and i cant tell if its ok or not....theres no log yet but the green box is where it'll be....i have a feeling people are goner say the text on the right it too busy....

Its fairly rough at the moment, some re-aligning to do here and there

    any feedback would be appreciated

I like the header actually. Nice choice of colors.

I would decrease the font-sizes on the right a bit.

Also, the rounded box seems like you created a smaller box and then scaled it by dragging. Recreating the box directly at the size you want would give better rounded corners.

    Search appears twice.

I think it looks pretty nice. I have a couple suggestions though.

One is for aesthetics....I am not really feeling that text. If you are looking for something simple, there are plenty of fonts out there that are similar to Arial and Times, but you can notice a small difference. They will make a HUGE difference in the design! Text is so important, it took me years to find that out!

Another thing, consistency in the navigation. Some links are capitalized and come aren't, gotta fix that.

    Great start!

Yeah the navigation elements definitely need to be consistent (capitalization). Otherwise it looks like a great header. I imagine you will have some rollovers? The search box could use something more defining for it's border rather than just solid green

I like it, looks good. However, the text that says "My account | My orders" is sticking out to me. I'd say make it smaller or a lighter shade of grey. Also, with the 2 pictures of the guy and girl, the styles look a bit different. His is a normal photograph but the contrast on her's looks like it's increased. A couple of small things but just my 2 cents.

I like it, looks good. Don't have much to critique, just wanted to give you thumbs up for your design. Maybe i would have more to say once you complete the website.

I love this design. Great work. As for critiques,

    1. The alternating 2 / 3 lines on the sale items causes an alignment problem. Would be better if you can fix the height of the text area regardless of no of lines.

    2. Main nav has some words starting in uppercase and some in lowercase.

Other than that very nice work.

I agree, good work. When I first saw the header I would have suggested to create a gradient for the green areas as well but now that I've seen the rest of the page and the change of colours I think it all looks well balanced.

Keep it up and let us have a look at the end product!

I like your second design as well. I think the my account/my orders is fine. I agree with neversaydie that the 2 pictures should maybe have more similar styles.

I like the header, especially with the updated design.

Perhaps I am being fussy, but I do not like the "Search" text at the far left under the navigation. I think it is either too large a text size or would look much nicer as a small search icon.

Good clean look for the second version.

Should initial cap (or lower case) everything in the nav bar - just to be consistent.

I would also try to work that chrome/silvery color into the search bar so it matches the nav bar.

I like the second part but

    1) The photos. As someone into photography, I cannot help but think
those are not the best photos you could use for this site. The first looks
OK but the second is horrible. The contrast is too much, without enough
of a boost in the brightness (doesn't need this!!) to look natural.

    2) The wording on the nav bar ~ some have initial caps and some do not.
    3) As others said, I would work the chrome/silvery color into the search.
    4) Possibly change the 'My Account | Orders' part to a different color,
even if just slightly (like a medium gray ish color?) so it slightly stands out vs.
the colors of the other (text) elements. Just my poor 1 penny

your latest version is much better then the green you started with. The new colors seem to work.

    critiques:
you should ad some product information under the featured product along with the name of the product above the product image.

all the text seems to be the same font and either black or white, use some typography or maybe different fonts for headlines or the mens/womens callout

    A few minor things:
    - Be a little more consistent with your capitalization. For example, in your header, you have some items with a capital, and some without. I think that's meant to be stylized, but I'd go with either everything starting with a capital letter, or none of them. In your case, I think none may work best.

    - I'd either underline, bold, or un-bold the links for "login" and "register" at the top.

    - Try to get the things on the side to line up better, though, I think it may look better if they aren't right next to each other, or if there is just the one.

I won't really comment on the bottom of the page, since I'm assuming that part isn't finished.

Looking good, just a quick comment to agree with sparkdesign, right now I think it almost looks too flat and it needs some sort of gradient to solve that.

I like it in the dark gray and the flat look is good there, but for some reason I'm not liking it in the green. But maybe once it has the rest of the site in there it will all come together

    Good luck

    Looking better.
I would drop the gradient and give those areas a solid colour.
