should be simple display question

Near the bottom of my website I want to put 3 simple ads horizontally just above the footer. I put each ad into its own div with css styles. When I add the display:inline to these div instead of lining up horizontally they disburse along the left side of my site filling all the existing gaps. I am sure there must be a simple thing I am overlooking.

When I added float to the div it now works for me.

And to think I was just about to suggest floating the DIVs. Glad to see you got it sorted out though.
