I cannot in any way condone this comment, I think that if you actually met and spoke to hard working developers you would realise how stupid it really is to be proud of owning illegal software. I met someone from Microsoft once who explained to me the process by which they develop software, and the amount of hard work and hours that go into miniscule projects is amazing.

I agree, Nicky. I stopped using illegal software a LOONG time ago (years). Not only is it theft, but it is also a slap in the face of the guys and gals who have worked HOURS creating the products we know and love.

I think Adobe (read: I HOPE) provides a 30 day trial so I can see what PS7 has in it that isn't in 6. I need to upgrade to Ill 10 as well from 7. I also don't have Acrobat. So I may do like Jeremy and buy the whole designer suite when PS7 comes out. Actually, I think there's a free upgrade coupon with the suite now to get PS7 when it comes out at no extra charge. I just need to get a decent paying contract right now so I can afford it.

I have only been in here for three months or so now and it is the first time me or my comments are actually being called stupid. All because of misunderstanding and misjudgment.

I find this very disapointing that you would treat me like that, but you have every right to since the Internet is such an impersonal medium.

I thought I had been clear enough that it was a joke. I guess I was wrong.

From now on, I'll make sure to always be very serious and only answer threads to help others and keep my humor to myself. That way I will not have to suffer such comments from someone I actually respect a lot in here.

I guess some things are better left unsaid. I never should have insinuated that and even though I have my own licenses because I have to (since I run my own company), I don't need to meet anyone to know how much hard work it takes... I deal with that kind of stress on a daily basis.

I am deeply sorry my stupid comment upsetted you in that way. I Guess that sort of thing is bound to happen from time to time.

You shouldn't take me too seriously, I never meant to call you stupid, I guess I just couldn't think of the apporpriate word.

And no, I didn't know that you were joking. I took your comment as a serious one and answered back what I thought of it.

Poor Micro$oft. Being victimized by end users and all. I feel sorry for them. I just hope they still have enough money to pay the legal fees for suing the charities that were giving away old copies of Windows 95 to poor children.

    Semi OT....

I am seriously wondering about the viability of moving everything to Linux so's I can avoid paying hefty fees for software.

    Imaging - GIMP
Editor - emacs, vi, Jext (cool), that KDE thing...
WYSIWYG - Amaya (I only need it for quick mockups really)
Office - OpenOffice (apparently Sun are going to charge for StarOffice 6)

It's really lacking a decent vector package and a Flash-equivalent though.

Anyone doing lots of design/dev on Linux?
    that's me!

Actually it's old news, but it fit my little <humor> rant so I brought it back up. It wasn't the first or the last time M$ has taken on a charity.

And yet at the same time they donate over 1B$/year to Charity... Those evil people for saying folk must have licenses to software, how rude, eh?

I mean, all these corporations are being so generous in giving away their old machines so they can get a massive tax break worth the ORIGINAL VALUE of the computer for charitable purposes, how can we expect them to actually shell out any real money to the charities...

Evil microsoft for forcing us into such a position.
