    document.all is IE syntax whereas document.layers is NS syntax. Does that help?

    document.all -> IE
    document.layers -> netscape 4.x

    To get stuff working in IE5/6 and Netscape 6 (and anything else supporting the W3C DOM), try:

    <div id="thediv">content</div>
    ...
    document.getElementByID("thediv").style.visibility = "visible";
    document.getElementByID("thediv").style.visibility = "hidden";
