    Hello!

I seek a search engine for a Web site containing approximately 50 pages. This search engine must be able to carry out its search in files HTML and pdf. It must also be able to work with the words containing accents (French language).

    Can you suggest me?

    Thank you in advance!

    Louis,

You might want to try http://www.atomz.com - it looks pretty good and it's the search engined used/supported by SitePoint I believe...if I'm not mistaken they still advertise in The Webmaster Tribune...however I think the engine is free only if your site contains less than 500 pages.

It will be hard to find a search engine capable of indexing PDF documents for two reasons:
    *They're binary files
*They would be hard to interpret
Maybe a professional-strength search engine would search PDFs but I'm not sure even about them.

    Hi!

    There is also www.htdig.org
It's open software. Supplies plugins for indexing (and linking) pdf, doc and other things. Very nice, actually. Been playing with it a lot in the past. :-)

    True!

Actually, however, I liked fiddling with the algorithms provided and knitting my templates, etc, etc

Using free software is also still a pleasure over buying services.

Thanks, though, for the link. I did not know they offered this service publically.

    Regards,

    Atrus.
