We have a client who has registered its name with all possible extensions and wants to use them all. Our hosting company says that to do this, they must host the main domain, and have the rest point to this one. What affect has this domain pointing on getting listed in search engines? Is this the same as forwarding?. We have found forwarding does not cut it with the search engines.

i don't know the answer to your question, but i have a question for you....

did they register all possible domains including international? if so, how did they do that, if they don't have in-country offices? we are trying to register our domain in countries we're expanding into, and we're running into trouble.

I'm not really sure. What you could do though, is have a seperate account for each one, so the index.htm pages show up like they are in their own domains and accounts, by only putting the index.htm page in each account except for the main one. Then have all the links point to your main account. You can do this using a free service, or maybe you host can work something out.

the domain pointers will show up in your reffer log file. a pointer is just another name for your site. example
    http://www.blueridgewireless.com http://www.blueridgewireless.net http://www.blueridgewireless.org http://www.blueridgecellular.com http://www.blueridgepcs.com

all go to the same index page. but show up in my reffering log files.

Thanks for that. Have you registered each domain name with search engines, or just one?
