both column colors stay the same no matter how long the other one is

im designing this site where its made so that no matter how long the left column is, the right columns color reaches the bottom. but i cant figure out how to make is so that if the right column is longer, then the left one reaches the bottom.

    Hi,

I found your markup confusing to look at, but I can give you the idea of how to achieve what you are wanting.

The technique is faux columns - You give a repeating background image to a wrapper element to fake the column height.
All you need to do to make your layout stay together is to apply a background image to a container element(containing both the sidebar and content) that is the width of the grey sidebar and set it to repeat-y.

    Hope it helps

The faux column method of achieving equal height columns is the simplest, so best method to use
