Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6(?) IS USM Lens
    ISO: 100
    Date/Time: 2007:06:02 15:08:25
    Flash: Not used
Post Processing: Resized with forced constraints, no cropping or zooming, added image border and watermark. No other touch ups were performed. (Although, if I were to do some, I would either lighten it and transform it to a grayscale, or increase the color depth of the background.)

I suppose I sort of cheated. I don't find fruit or vegetables by themselves all that appealing, at least not when found in nature (in our local gardens), and I'm not sure where I could go and be allowed to take pictures of some. No local outdoor markets that I'm aware of right now, I think they open a bit later in the season. I tried to find some ceramic miniatures that might have been holding some fruit or vegetables, but none of our Hummels have that. Luckily while out at Yaddo Gardens, hoping to catch a glimpse of the roses (not yet in bloom, oops), I saw this statue of a woman holding grapes. YES! That'll work! I have some much nicer pictures of the statues in the gardens, but they're not showing the fruit, so...

Thumbs up Nice stuff guys !

This is taken with Canon EOS REBEL, Digital. Just on automatic, close-up.
It is the flower and the fruit of a P*rickly (does not let me say the name) Pear Cactus which is native to our island. The gopher turtles love to eat them, and so do we. They make a delicious drink, but watch out, to prepare them you must peel the skin which is full of nasty little thorns that break off and stay in your skin for a long time. The juice also stains like crazy.

And this is what I like to do with photos just like this, I make paintings/illustrations out of them in photoshop. That is why it is not so important for me to have really great photos. But I will get into it more now

    Another set of our Natives

These were taken last year with Canon EOS REBEL, Digital. Just on automatic, close-up. Probably some Photoshop adjustments for contrast, maybe sharpening a little bit, do not remember. I find the photos pretty good for having been taken with the automatic, but they are missing that wonderful crispness, that glossy feel, that light that makes you just marvel.

The bean pods are from a plant that is called: Necklace Pod, the beans are its fruit. The purple Berries, Beauty Berries, are eatable, we make a jelly with them.

    -
This wild beauty is called a Nicker Bean. The thorns prevent people from walking over the dunes, they protect nesting animals under their low umbrella. The beans, which are within these pods, are speckled and make nice necklaces.

The Yaupon Bush has leaves that make a delicious tea, but the berries one should avoid, they look tempting, but they are emetic. Birds love them. The Florida Privit has little olive like fruit, a lot of different birds eat them, especially the birds that stop here on their migration flights back home to the northern regions.

An "Oregonian" snail. lol! Are they much different from the Bostonian snails? (...careful with those Bostonian ones, they might Pahk the cahr near the Hahbah Yahd.)

Ulrike, I love that 2nd to last picture of the red berries on the near-white branch with perfect little leaves. I don't even necessarily know why, I think I just love the color contrast and balance.

Thanks m. We have several of these types of bushes here, they have branches like bones, bleached and almost dead looking, but the red berries give such wonderful contrast. There is one bush that grows in salty and brackish water, it is called the Christmas Berry, its bloom has many different colors from white through violet, pale blue and purple, the berries are also red just like on this one.

It is really interesting when you go out and start looking what you will be able to see, things you never paid attention to before suddenly jump out right at you.

Wow, I did not recognize that one. That must have been sitting in a relatively light spot to sprout like that, or been very old! Fun pic

Alright, I went to a local market and took these:

I used my rebel for these pics and used either the standard 18-55mm lens or a zoom lens I have which im too lazy to get up and see the specs on it. I typically use manual focus. Sometimes I like to play with the focus and focus on things closer or farther rather than in the middle.
