Simple menu problem

A noob at CSS, I'm trying to make a simple horizontal menu. I can't tell what I'm doing wrong but I'd like the menu to look like this screen capture below.

I've got the nav and footer working in safari and firefox, but there are a few small issues with IE 5 & 7. Any help would be appreciated.

Try giving all of the <li>s and <a>s in #navlist float:left.
