Does anybody have information concerning the inability of search engines to index the "?" character which is commonly used in websites designed on Lotus/Domino (version below 5.0)? We have been unable to get our site to be indexed by any search engines except for Google, and we can't explain it. We are using Frames, but then, how is Google finding many of our pages?
As far as I know search engines think that URL's with ? in it is a cgi-script and they will not index these kind of pages.
In version 5.0 of Lotus Notes and above you can use ! instead of ?, something that should fix your problem.
Another technique that I have been using lately is to let Lotus Notes agents generate static HTML pages, but that's only because the hosting provider I'm using is not supporting Domino.
Frames are also something to avoid if you want to be indexed in search engines. Not many search engines will follow the links correctly.
