    Got to disagree there Jake, short tags are a lazy way of programming and a bad habit to get into.
    What is so difficult about typing <?php echo which will always work rather than <?= which may or may not work depending on your server setup?

    There are no disadvantages to short open tags apart from the basic XML tag problem (which is very simply resolved by echoing it). So why not?

    Oh, and I don't use <?=, THAT is lazy. I use <? echo
