    Question Opera 8.0 renders like IE5.x

    Hi All..
    I don't understand why opera 8 (not 6,7 and9) renders like IE5!
    It also use broken box model.
    check the fllowing code in Opera 8.0 and another browser:

    Code HTML4Strict:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    <style>
    input.a {
    	height:18px;
    	border:1px solid #9c9c9c;
    	background-color:#eff2e9;
    }

    </style>
    </head>

    <body>
    <form>
    <input type="text" class="a">
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>

    Are you using a complete valid Doctype?
    Do you have a link or can you provide the code if so?

    When I define background, border or height for <input type="text"> tag it uses broken box model.
    I searched the forum but nobody has had such problem with opea8!

    Hi,

    My Opera 8 has the same behaviour and there's little you can do about it as other browsers may not let you style some form elements at all. Most opera users will be using opera 9 by now anyway and it certainly isn't worth adding a hack just for opera 8.

    I would just lose the height and set line-height and font-size to determine the height.
