Installing symfony on a MediaTemple DV3? Anyone know how?

On my MediaTemple DV3 (dedicated) account they only allow you to update php to v.5 on a per domain basis. Or I should say they only "support" the update that way.

So I have my domain updated to version 5, and then I upgraded pear, and when I go to install symfony it says that I need php5 and that I have php4.

Has anyone done this install, could you help to shed some light on how I could?

Anyone? Or even just installing php5 on the entire server instead of on a per domain bases would help.
