Donation/Charity Site Promotion Ideas

I volunteered to help someone promote their charity donation site. I am used to promoting information sites or even ecommerce but not charities.
Of course there is the usual stuff like SE's, refering friends, PPC engines, and partnerships but I know there has to be more for this niche.

Anyone have any specific ideas or know of any vortals that are specifically for this type of site?
