Display date in british format...

Hi I am using PHP and MySQL. I am querying a table with a number of fields of which one is a date field but it is displaying in the wrong format ie YYYY.MM.DD...

How do I specify the date format of a field?

I know this is really PHP forum but I thought someone would know...
