Why r they banning Wordpress....i mean just wordpress. How will that do anything. What about Joomla, XMB, cutenews, phpbb and the millions of other cms's out there!

They didn't ban the WordPress software, they banned the wordpress.com domain; the free hosted blog service.

Turkish millionaire, accused criminal and cult leader, anti-semite and anti-evolutionist Adnan Oktar didn't like what was said about him on a few WordPress blogs. (This appears to be the only English-language blog).

So Oktar, who also goes by the name Harun Yahya, went to court. And the court decided that the best way to deal with the problem was to block all access to Wordpress.com in Turkey.

I think this should be posted here just to know the others what's the reason why wordpress was banned in Turkey.

i am Turkish, the reason is some people (their blogs are about bad things ) use wordpress like terrorists and Turkey sens mail to close that but wordpress not close so the site is banned

That is called free speech. I think what this means is that authorities have to get up-to-date on the blogosphere. So far only a few countries do this, but as long as the blogosphere exists, there will always be some legal clashes.

If you're a blogger who wants to reach a Turkish audience, the only viable option here is to download the WordPress software and get some hosting elsewhere.

I actually read somewhere that you can bypass the ban by using a different DNS server like OpenDNS.

Most don't, even places like Canada and most European countries (look up hate speech laws)

Yeah, this person was the one who request to ban wordpress in Turkey. Maybe to protect himself.
