I'll start by saying that I spend most of my time over in the CSS forum and have only recently begun to look at javascript as a powerful tool for implementing navigation systems. I found the "javascript resources" link at the top of this forum and I'm going to begin with the Basic Articles section to get me started.

But while I'm beginning my tutorials on the basics of javascript, can anyone tell me if it's possible to do a nav bar like on this site using javascript and the DOM? I know this example is Flash, but I want to have main categories arranged horizontally and when the user mouses over the main headings, a second sub-category list appears horizontally beneath it.

I'm not sure if there's a script that's readily available and you just plug in your own details or if I would need to start from scratch (quite an exercise given my very basic understanding of javascript).

Thanks for your ideas and patience with the new learner!
