best way to send bulk email

Whats the best way to send bulk email? Sendmail is kind of a beast when sending out lots of bulk.

I need to send to around 1million opt ins in each run.

Swiftmailer, with explicit connections to one or more dedicated mail servers. Send the mail in batches with a cron job.

That'll be okay if phanto doesn't mind spending $10K per batch.

I would think a task of this size will require at least one dedicated server. No shared host will let you send that number of emails out in one pass. How often would you run this job? No more than once a week I would assume. Also you would want to deal with all the bounced back email so as not to send to the same address with more than three bounced back emails.
