    Here are some online resources:
    www.playingwithfire.com
    www.projectfireworks.com
    www.escogitando.it/en/en.html

There are also lots of great books that you could buy. I recommend Fireworks 4 Bible by Simon White.

I can personally vouch for the Visual Quickstart series from Peachpit Press.
They are geared towards the beginner but have enough info in them to stay useful as your skills develop. They are also reasonably priced.
Fireworks 4 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide: Intro / Contents.

In my experience they are a brilliant introduction to software and its uses at all levels.

Also, you may want to consider going the tutorial CD route.
Two good ones are VTC and Lynda.com.

    Both have CDs for Fireworks.

Incidentally, Lynda.com has some online free tips and guides from their Fireworks CD (and other software).
