Have Visitors Set Their Home Page to Your Site

I've been building web sites since 1996 and of all the tools and resources I've used, I found a new one that is by far better than any other tool I've come across.

This new tool allows visitors to your web site to click on a button and set their browser's home page to your web site, which means that every time they load their browser, YOUR page will load!

I've been doing it for a few weeks now and about 1% of my visitors bookmark it. Considering that most web users are online at least 3 times a week, this has added 12% to my monthly traffic! (.01 X 3days X 4weeks)

The best part is that the next month I'll have another 12% increase in traffic, and 12% each month after that because it compounds continuously because new visitors will also make it their homepage!

Same thing can also be accomplished via JavaScript, though it works only with Internet Explorer 5.

Why would a new user make it their homepage ? ?

I would say a very rare amount would actually use that. Definetely not 12 %

Some people might...

He didn't say 12% made his site their homepage...he said about 1% did, but that 1% added 12% to his overall traffic...

I'm surprised even 1 out of 100 people made it their homepage...I would've guessed more like 1 out of 500, or 1 out of a 1,000 would be more likely.

You can use this also, it's not Javascript either, making it work in any browser/it even degrades well onto old browsers:

The above is Javascript. Script is the only way you can utilize the Events within the Object Model.

I find it interesting that you would consider this an alternative. This only works for the newer versions of IE. It does not work with Netscape. That vphome service is compatible with all versions of IE and Netscape. Just a thought.

Aghh, I tested my entire site in Netscape Navigator3+/IE4+ and it works fine on Netscape 4...and IE4+

This type of script should only work with IE. In order to use this type of script with Netscape it is required to be signed, although it should work if you test it locally.

At least this is what I found out, there is some more info about the Netscape part of the script over at irt.org http://developer.irt.org/script/1350.htm
