changing .htm to .php on SE indexed pages

    Hi Guys,

I'm redesigning one of my sites. Changing all the file names, including .htm files to .php ones. The site has been indexed on google and other Search Engines.

What is the best way to have the process run smoothly when vistors from the site through a search engine. I don't want visitors to hit an error page but instead go from, aboutus.htm straight to aboutus.php.

Will I need to make a htacess file listing all the current file names and what they are to be changed to?

Is there an easier way and if so, where might I find information on it?

    Thanks in advance

Try using 301 redirects. It works for the visitors and the search engine spiders.
