50,000 records. Best way to load?

i have about 50,000 records in an XML file. i need to load these on the fly into the browser. AJAX obviously comes into mind, but it does take a while to load the records - which makes sense...there are a lot.

i'm just wondering if there's a faster way of displaying those records.

How about splitting the xml file up into several files and load them one by one? The records will still take a long time to load, but you should be able to see the first records quite fast.

yeah - definitely a thought. like load the first 100 from the start and then load the other files as needed.

Do the records have to be in XML? Could you use MySQL and use PHP and AJAX to call a few records at a time/when needed?

Why do you need to load so much data into javascript? Can't you use some server side script to cut it into more manageable chunks?
