Nice. Unfortunately though that MediaTemple, my dear hosting provider, isn't in the list. But still.

oooh, nice site, however I prefer to use services that monitor my individual site for me, like hyperspin, but annoyingly it's not perfect and you can only monitor one site.

Always something worth considering - If the site that is monitoring the hosts is down, does it record a black mark against the host being monitored when the tester is down? Does it indicate that the testing platform was down at that time? - It should do, as it isn't then fair to those hosts that were up, when hosts that were down can't be monitored and are showing as all okay when they weren't etc.

Just a comment: uptime is not just "uptime".
I've been for about 6 mounths with hostingzoom and they have very high uptime records, but I get rather often "internal server errors" with all my websites simultaneously. That is not registeres as downtime, but in practical sense is exactly the same! Be careful with that!

Any decent monitoring service should be checking for a 200 OK response, so a 500 error should be regarded as just that, an error and counted as downtime.

Thanks for the clarification, Karl, but then I don't understand how is it possible that zoom has so high uptime records and me having so often internal server errors. I've never had to make any change. I only need to wait...

It may be, that if they get a response, then they class it as being up - most of the site out there that do this kind of thing are written/run by people who have no great understanding of what they're doing - Often linked with affiliate deals so they get money for making some hosts look better than others (although that doesn't appear to be the case here).

I think this link could be of your interest:
http://webservations.nwblog.com/
The article describe the problems and tricks the authors discovered with one of the free uptime monitoring systems, called webhostingstuff (Of course, I can't warrant you the acuracy of the article's statements). Some quotes (the second one talks exactly about our discussed point):
"...any host can simply erase undesired statistics and then begin reporting an immediate 100% uptime since the reset."
"We further came to learn that WebHostingStuff's monitors don't even check to see if core services are running on a server (which can mean they could report a server being online when it is in fact not serving web content)."
" Finally, we learned their service can be tricked into reporting a 100% uptime through an automated "daemon" that simply responds to pings from WebHostingStuff."Hábitat Web - Soluciones para espacios virtuales
