Question IE6: Navigation out of alignment + additional (unwanted) padding

Just about to wrap up a website for a client, I test it in IE7, Firefox 2, Safari - all good. I come to view the site in IE6, and yep, you guessed it, odd behaviour appears before me.

The whole site is fine except for the navigation. In IE6 it sits about 5px too high and adds a further 5px to the bottom of every menu item.

I have used an unordered list with images for buttons.

I have gone over and over the CSS and tried all sorts of published solutions, but I cannot get the thing to stop with the extra 5px all over the place. Does anybody know what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Found a solution

As is always the case, after posting for help I have in fact discovered a solution.

It turns out the issues were 2 different problems:

    1. Extra padding in list items:

This was solved by applying overflow: hidden; to the list item in the stylesheet.

    2. The absolutely positioned menu sitting 5px too high within it relatively positioned container:

This was solved by giving the relatively positioned container element a width value.

So, if anybody else comes across these issues, that's how you get around it.
