    Layout elements review.

    Hello,

My siteīs main intention is to offer information, so it should be a place where one can comfortably sit down and read.

I would like to maintain the same layout but believe I could improve my background-image and text-background.

What do you think I can do to improve the overall impression and reader-friendlyness?

Any comments on the colors, header and logo used are welcome too.

The background-image is a scanned picture of an old oil-painting.

Because of the dynamic background I believe itīs much better to give a link to the site instead of a screenshot, so here it is.

Thank you for taking your time to take a look at things.

Try putting a thin solid border around the transparent space, to differentiate it from the background. Or just get rid of the transparency alltogether. The problem for me is that it blends in too much with the background. Other than that the site is great!

    Thank you Jon,

I did what you suggested and I believe it really makes a big difference. Such a simple change and so much better. At least, the way I see it.

What do you think, is this what you had in mind?

The main thing I would work on to make this more user friendly is the header (logo and navigation). I think the navigation seems a bit overwhelming at first glance as there are so many links. Maybe consider condensing down to a drop down menu or something similar?

Hey Dogs and things, interesting site you're working on. I don't speak spanish, but I'm sure the content is just as good as the layout. It's simple and effective in maintaining reader focus, but it's not clean - and that's where you will lose a lot of readers.

I would recommend removing the transparency all together, and changing the background from a repeating pattern, to a simple fade. Something like the background over at The Big Noob. A simple fade would simplify the design and make it easier to look at/read.

Otherwise, it looks great. Can't wait to see any changes you present in the future.

I wouldn't use the fixed background as it slows down the browser on older PCs, and thus proves to either be annoying or a distraction for the user, or both. If you want to keep the fixed background (if you insist) then make the background of the document body a solid color, to avoid eye strain for your users.

I'd suggest loosing some of the green, there is a little to much. Possibly the links, maybe use the orange that you use on your navigation.

As for Readability, I tend to find positioning titles to the left is alot more legible as it creates a natural flow for yours eyes to follow.

My last suggestion would be to move the search to the right of the logo, and possibly strink the logo as well. Hopes this helps

Your site's background is too cold, why do not you get some orange/red/yellow for it.

Logo looks alright... However, it also looks like a stock logo.

Try reducing the width of the transparent space so it lines up with your header.

Also, while it is nice and effective, it is rather boring and just kind of lists the information. You should try playing around with adding some borders around your info to try and break up the stuff and make it a little less boring. It'll also give you some opportunity to add some more color.

I think the header text and the stroke/inner glow (?) are a mistake...it's looking a bit 1980's and is not entirely readable. Something more minimalist, some nice typography would do this design wonders

    good luck

It looks like that the header was designed with Word...

I like the tidiness of the menu.

    Saludos! =)

    Hello,

here are some of the things i would do:

    - get rid of the space between the header and the border
    - redesign the header (add the logo to it and also the search box)
    - i would the structure of your homepage using a multicolumn layout for example
