    Yahoo Hosting?

Has anyone ever used Yahoo to host their website? I have heard some good and more bad comments about them. I am a rookie at this so my site is going to be pretty basic. How do they rank vs. other hosting companies?

Yahoo has an “easy site creator” tool to make a site with a template like process. Do sites that use these rank as well in search engines as sites built without a template?

I suggest using kompozer, a HTML tutorial and http://www.oswd.org instead of using site builders offered by hosts.

there is much more hosting with site builder. And its free as well.

yahoo i heard some comment about it. Issue with domain name. Unless you host your domain elsewhere, then go ahead.

Yahoo is not so good IMHO.

I recently dealt with them because a new client had already chosen them for hosting... I ended-up emailing them with some technical questions and I got a reply that answered nothing that I asked... basically told me to go read the FAQ's.

From a professional standpoint, I would avoid Yahoo! hosting.

I agree. Don't use Yahoo. I've also heard horror stories here on the forums about Yahoo! adding proprietary code to Web pages that causes them to fail validation (which can in turn cause display problems in various browsers).

I've even tried fixing some of them myself to no avail.

I think you can do much better than yahoo. If you are new you might need some extra help and hand holding while getting setup, etc. Most hosts offer the easy site builders too so that shouldnt be a problem or you can try as Dan suggested, download some free HTML programs and give it a try :-)
The site builders offered by hosts though will allow you to get up and going quickly with no HTML skills (pretty much point, click, publish)
If you are able to shortlist a few hosts then send some pre-sales emails to them before signing up anywhere.

Well i suggest you go for a hosting company that does only hosting. It's the safest bet out there.

I have limited html knowledge (i can change background colors, add links, add parapraphs etc.) but I don't really want a cookie cutter website. Are there some site builder programs through hosting companies that are relatively easy to use that don't look like everyone elses site?

Based on your stated knowledge you should be able to modify any template and/or site builder programs offered by hosts to your liking.

Actually Yahoo! is not a domain registrar at all. If you read their TOS you will see that they contract domain registrations thru a netherland registrar. In any event I do not recommend using your host for your registrar and I certainly would not recommend Yahoo! for either.

I don't recommend Yahoo! as a host either for the reasons of poor performance, poor support, and a poor value for the money. Yes, I did try them at one time. I actually split for GoDaddy, which is akin to jumping from the fry pan into the fire. That's a few hosts ago, though

I've heard bad things about Yahoo Hosting. Such as bad performance.

This is usually because they are new to this market. They could have become better. Try Webhostingtalk.com for some reviews.

Do sites that use templates rank worse in search engines?

Oh, why didn't you say that. A cms will do the job perfectly. You could go for a blog type, a wiki type or even for a regular portal type.

Hi, I heard from lots of customers who used Yahoo recently that they block almost 70% of incoming and outgoing mails and it is hard to receive a mail. The free mail service they have is much reliable, that is why you better choose a specialized web hosting company having domain registration or register the domain with any of the bigger domain registrars. Also it is sometimes hard to get your domain unlocked and released from Yahoo - probably they just work too slow.

    Good Luck!

IMO, you should go for a hosting company which offers only hosting services and must be in service from past 5-10 years.
