Make the selection selected?

Now I have a drop down menu with 4 options.
When someone make a selection they will reload the page and I want the dropdown to mark the selection they made to be selcted, but I don't know how to do it when reloading the same page.

When the user select option1 in the dropdown they will go to index.php?page=1

But how can I mark the dropdown so that it shows what the user selected?
