What type of hosting do I need?

    Howdy,

I was curious if someone could give me an idea of what I need.

BAsically I'm looking to host my college project app. It's a C# app that scans files and builds up data based on that.

Now as its a .exe does anyone know if there is any cheaper altenitive to getting a dedicated server? The site won't need any major resources but needs to run the .exe from what I gather a simple account wont do this.

Sorry if I dont make sense it's been a while :P

Bit confused, sounds like you are making a program for a home computer?

    Thanks, Ben

You'll have to look for a VPS really, and shared host that would allow you to do it, you should run away from - quickly.

Hello. I think that dedicated server suits you fully. WHT has rich offer section. You will be able to find something interesting.

You need something along the lines of a Windows VPS for sure in this case. This is because no webhosting company (who know what they're doing) will let anyone run a .exe on a shared hosting system.

Figured as much. So Webhostingtalk is the place to find a VPS? Dedicated servers would be fine but probably overkill until it properly kicks off.

Webhostingtalk.com is a forum where lots of hosting co's and hosts post. What you need is something like webhostdir.com, tophosts.com, hostsearch.com to find you a VPS host Though it doesn't hurt on checking out the WHT forums.

You can read the threads in the proper forum and take note of any hosts that are recommended consistently. Some might be offering what you're after.

My personal experience with WebHostingTalk is that it's populated by vested interests that can result in people being censored if they dare talk against whatever prevailing ignorance they wish to present at one time or another.

There are, for example, rampant and silly arguments about alleged overselling and how it's your worst nightmare.

That's why I tend to avoid them these days, though I've posted a lot with them in the past.

VPS? My site runs on one at HostICan, where I've had great service and support.
