Dreamweaver Images Not Referencing Parent Folder

When I make pages in Dreamweaver, I use the image button to create the image on the page. For some reason though, it shows the URL for just that image and doesn't reference the parent folder.

    Example: apple.jpg instead of fruit/apple.jpg

Now, I can do this by hand but it's time-consuming and I've also noticed that once I put in the parent folder with slash, the image no longer shows on the page--even though the directory is correct.

How do I make DW put in the parent folder part of URL with slash in front of it and make it show the image on the page?

Depends on whether you have the files referenced as relative to document or relative to site root. This is not *sticky*, if you've changed it at one point, it will stay that way unless you change it back.
